About

Self PortraitThis is my photography website. For my technical website, please go to the main site here:  imsolidstate.

I’ve been interested in photography since I was about twelve, when i borrowed my grandfather’s Konica SLR. It was all manual, had a built-in light meter and came with a 50mm F1.4 manual focus lens. I shot a few rolls of film with it, and was hooked at that point by the look you could get in pictures by manipulating the depth of field. Eventually I saved up for my own camera, a Minolta X-570 and Sigma 28-80 F2.8. I took a lot of pictures with that camera, and read anything I could get my hands on about photography.

I preferred landscapes and outdoor photography for a long time, but I’ve slowly branched out to people and animals. They are definitely more challenging, however just as rewarding when you get it right.

I like to use odd cameras and modify cameras. See the Horizont, my infrared camera, or the line scan camera I messed with. I also enjoy the challenge of night photography.

Today I shoot with my EOS-1D. I have more of an interest in experimental and abstract these days, especially as I get familiar with editing software. I have plans for trying out HDR photos, as well as time lapse as I’ve developed some interest in video. I also might eventually get around to building a proper rig for multi-line stitched panoramas.
